The Auburn/Cayuga NAACP Branch named Gwen Webber-McLeod as the 2019 Hall of Fame recipient during the organization’s 20th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Millenium Luncheon. The event was held on January 25 at the Sunset Restaurant in Auburn.
Gwen formerly chaired the organization, and in 1985 received the Auburn/Cayuga NAACP Outstanding Community Service Award and in 2010 was an MLK Millenium Awardee “As a past President, much of who I am as a social justice activist was developed during these years,” Webber-McLeod said.
“Most importantly, I learned how to be a confident, competent, courageous, and calm leader during my tenure. Freedom fighting is not for the weak of heart. Every fiber of your being is tested when challenging the status quo. Together with many great Auburnians we tackled very difficult issues to ensure our community did its best to treat all of its citizens with dignity and respect.”
